To the Editor: We would like to thank Ms Sun and Dr Sebaratnam 1 for their comments on our article ‘‘Dermatologists in social media: A study on top influencers, posts, and user engagement.’’2 One of our aims was to emphasize the influence that dermatologists may have on the public through social media. We agree with the call to use social media for education and advocacy. The increasing popularity of social media has provided dermatologists with a unique opportunity to reach a large audience. Educational posts and videos can be used to increase public awareness of different dermatologic diseases. From the patients’ perspective, having trustworthy educational information from board-certified dermatologists can empower them and afford them with accurate, up-to-date information to manage their skin conditions.
