We surveyed 25 urban and suburban habitats in Budapest and its surroundings under dif ferent human impact ranging from hothouses to rural forests. A total of 18 species of terrestrial isopods and 26 species of millipedes were encountered. This diversity is surprisingly high, represent ing 38% and 25% of the known Hungarian Oniscidea and Diplopoda fauna, respectively. One isopod
