简介
DISCUSSION
Rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous condition frequently seen in India and Sri Lanka. The causative organism, R seeberi, usually affects the upper airway, the nasal cavity, nasopharynx, and oropharynx. The disease is characterized by the presence of multiple pedunculated lesions in the mucosa. These lesions have a propensity to bleed and they recur after surgery possibly because of autoinoculation of the rhinosporidial spores adjacent to the surgical site. 6 Most of the patients present with nasal rhinosporidiosis, and, because they are recurrent, repeated excisions are required. Bleeding is a problem during the procedure, thus excision is usually performed with general anesthesia and tracheal intubation, sometimes requiring hypotensive techniques.
