Mutations that affect the ability of S. pombe to adapt to the presence of mating pheromones generally makes the cells hypersensitive to stimulation. Since the absence of Prkl does not appear to influence the pheromone response (Figure 2), the protein is unlikely to be involved in the desensitisation process.
