Skeans, Nisheet Waghray Background: Ischemic colitis occurs secondary to temporary interruption in mesenteric blood flow. Over 90% of cases occur in patients over the age of 60 years. Patients typically present with left-sided abdominal pain and lower gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Numerous risk factors have been associated with an increased risk of colonic ischemia (Table 1). However, the relative risk of these different factors has not been well-documented.
