简介
This project will report on the thermodynamic modeling and experiments to understand the behavior of oxides on the surface during galvanizing of two AHSS steels with the compositions: 1.5% Mn, 1.5% Al; and 1.5% Mn, 1.5% Si. Modeling predicted the oxides forming upon after annealing at 850 C using a-50 C dew point N2–10% H2 atmosphere. To analyze the interaction of the surface oxides with the molten zinc, a novel specimen–the capillary box–was designed and constructed, then processed using the Iwatani-Rhesca Galvanizing Simulator. In the thermal cycle, the specimen was heated to 850 C, held and cooled to 460 C at which point it was immersed in zinc bath with 0.2 wt.% Al. After galvanizing, the entrapped zinc was analyzed for elemental Mn and Si as well as oxide particles such as Al2O3, MnO and SiO2. The results of both the modeling and the experiments will be presented and discussed.
