Background

Racial discrimination is a form of trauma that may exacerbate PTSD symptoms after injury. Still, little is known regarding how experiences of racial discrimination impacts PTSD symptom trajectories.

Methods

The study included two independent samples of traumatically injured Black adults, one hospitalized for injuries (N= 84) the other discharged from the ED (N= 135). Lifetime discrimination experiences across several domains were self-reported within 3 weeks of injury using the PEDQ. Using latent profile analysis (LPA), we evaluated discrimination experience profiles within each sample. Trajectories of PTSD symptoms through 6-months were identified within each sample using latent class mixture modeling from the PCL-5.
