Introduction
Ventricular dysrhythmias and sudden death are among the most common complications of cardiac sarcoidosis. The role of electrophysiologic studies with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for management of cardiac sarcoidosis is unclear. We have typically performed EPS and RFA only in patients with dysrhythmias deemed to be clinically bothersome. The aim of this study is to assess whether RFA provided durable benefits in this population.
Methods
We reviewed cardiac sarcoidosis patients who had RFA between 1998 and 2008. The presence of cardiac sarcoidosis was defined according to modified ACCESS criteria. We analyzed the time to a composite first cardiac event, including appropriate ICD discharge, anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP), requirement for a subsequent RFA, cardiac transplantation or death.
