The economic globalization of the world has emerged the ecotourism trade. The countries possessing attractive bio-diversification empirical and historical heritage have the opportunity of develop the ecotourism sector to reap benefit out of this ever-expanding industry. Ecotourism development meets the needs of present tourists and host regions while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future. It is envisaged as leading to management of all natural resources in such a way that economic, social and aesthetic needs can be satisfied while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes and biodiversity and life support systems. Bangladesh, one of the ecologically richest courtiers in the world, has the golden opportunity to emancipate the economic backwardness with optimally utilizing the scope of ecotourism throughout country. This paper focuses on the status and prospects of ecotourism of extensive level in Bangladesh and points out its role in the economic development of the country. Relevant data for this paper were collected from the Sundarbans, Kuakata, Chittagong hill-tracks and St. Martins island from June 2006 to May 2007.
