Pain is one of the most feared consequences of cancer experienced by patients. It has a profound impact on every aspects of quality of life and is thus the dominant cause of total suffering of cancer patients, 1 although pain relief is achievable in more than 90% of cases. 2 Some studies have determined that up to 77% of patients with advanced disease report pain of severe intensity and 70% to 85% experience more than 1 pain syndrome. 3, 4 Patients not adequately treated for pain relief is well documented and can involve up to 40% patients. 5, 6
