0003. The present disclosure relates generally to three dimensional tissue models. More specifically, the disclosure provides for a device and methods of use of cell-embedded matrix spheres containing nanosensors therein (nanoCEMS), as well as a means for producing the nanoCEMS, to allow measurements of spatial distributions of the chemical and cellular microenvironments.
