The use of tissue property (TP) filters and the central contrast theorem (CCT) to describe the signal, contrast, and weighting of magnetic resonance (MR) images is described. The approach covers spin echo (SE), inversion recovery (IR), and pulsed gradient spin echo (PGSE) sequences as well as effects due to differences or changes in r_m, T₁, and T₂. It provides a mathematical formalism for understanding and using clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
