Recent research has suggested that job seekers consider the degree to which working for a company creates a positive impression of oneself to others. The present study examines organizational correlates of two symbolic inferences about prospective employers – impressiveness and respectability – that serve the social identity concerns of job seekers. Advertising intensity and product/service quality emerged as the best predictors of job market entrants’ perceptions of employer impressiveness and respectability.
