Data are tabulated on the nutrient content of the soil, probably representative of the soils of the calcareous plateaux of eastern France, and on the mean height and diameter of treated and untreated young Beech seedlings 3 years after the application of various combinations of N, P and K fertilizers. The treatments, designed to accelerate growth and thus reduce maintenance costs during conversion of coppice-with-standards to Beech high forest, did not result in any significant improvement.
