简介
In this study, our aim was to investigate the level of internet addiction among adolescents in sixth, seventh and eighth grades based on variables such as the possession of cellular phones, computers and internet, the time spent daily on the internet, the purpose of internet use, the supervision status, and television watching habits. The study population consisted of sixth, seventh and eighth grade adolescents from secondary education schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the provincial center of Cankiri. At total of 510 adolescents (consisting of 241 girls and 269 boys) from sixth, seventh and eighth grades and of low, middle and high socio-economic status were included into the study sample. The “General Information Form,” and the “Internet Addiction Scale” developed by Günüç (2009) were used for data collection. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests were used for data analysis. Based on our analyses, it was determined that adolescents who regularly used the internet on a daily basis, spent four to six hours every day on the internet, used the internet for entertainment, gaming and chatting purposes, and watched sports and magazine programs on television had higher mean addiction scores (p< 0, 05). To ensure the development of adolescents as healthy individuals, recommendations were also made for the productive use of the internet.
