Methods: There were 115 male AFL coaches who participated in the study. The 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ), 22-item Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and 21-item Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) were administered in an online survey at the commencement of the AFL season (Feb, 2017: pre-season) and three months later (May, 2017: mid-season).
Results: Comparison of mean scores between pre-and-mid-season showed that emotional exhaustion (EE), stress, DASS total and GHQ scores were significantly higher at mid-season; effect sizes (Cohen's d) were 0.23, 0.25, 0.19, and 0.21, respectively. There were no significant increases in levels of depersonalization (DE), personal accomplishment (PA), depression, and anxiety between the two measurement points (0.02< d< 0.08).
