简介
Healthcare-associated infections are one of the major complications in medicine, mainly caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as Clostridioides difficile, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, and other Gram-negative Bacilli. Antibiotic resistance is a major public health issue of the 21st century and represents an important threat to the global economy. The spread of drug-resistant pathogens limits the utility of available drugs and complicates treatment of bacterial diseases. As a result, there is an urgent need for new compounds with mechanisms of action capable of limiting bacterial resistance. Regulating antibiotic prescription, instituting antimicrobial stewardship programs, and developing new drugs with improved potency against multi-drug-resistant pathogens are some of the approaches that can be instituted to help solve this major public health problem.
