Chey, Eric D. Shah INTRODUCTION: Patterns of discontinuation of long-term therapy using real-world data are important in optimizing management of chronic illnesses. We aimed to comparatively assess discontinuation of therapy for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic constipation (CIC). METHODS: We identified patients initiating lubiprostone and linaclotide in an administrative dataset from a large academic medical system. Demographic data (age, gender, specialty of prescribing provider, suspicion of IBS based on validated ICD-9 codes) were extracted.
