简介
Background
Although any verbal age child may be affected, NOVL is most commonly seen in prepubertal and pubertal-aged children ranging from the age 8 to 13 years, with a mean age of 10 years for girls and 8 years for boys. 8–10 Girls consistently outnumber boys and in 1 series represented up to 92% of patients with NOVL. 2 There has not been any definitive difference in the incidence of NOVL among socioeconomic groups or races. Most affected children are of normal or above normal intelligence and Clarke 11 reported that school performance was not an important factor in the 70 children diagnosed with NOVL. 11 However, other studies have reported that children with NOVL often have challenges in school, despite having an above average intelligence. 8
