Methods
Analyses in this chapter required information on size at maturity, sexual dimorphism, adult sex ratio, sexual differences in mortality, population density, and home-range sizes for both sexes. Since there is considerable spatial and temporal difference in these variables, data from different study areas or years were not combined in the analysis. As a result, there were few species for which all of this information was available (see Tables 9.1 and 9.2).
For convenience in analysis, species in the families Iguanidae and Agamidae are included in Table 9.1, and species in the Lacertidae, Teiidae, and Scincidae are included in Table 9.2. All of the species in Table 9.1 (with the possible exception of Gambelia wizlizeni in Nevada) exhibit home-range defense.
