Zinc oxide (ZnO) is considered as a potential antimicrobial agent. This work aims to investigate the properties of ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO (1% and 5%) fabricated using aqueous leaf extract of Melastoma malabathricum via green synthesis and its antibacterial activities. The synthesized ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO were characterized using different techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The synthesized ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO were tested for its antibacterial properties on two Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and two Gram-positive bacteria: Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus.
