102 2003 PERSPECTIvE ON PHySICIAN ASSISTANT EDUCATION VOLUME 14, NUMBER 2 retain faculty, make the job interesting. Include a variety of tasks to complete in the department and gear most of them toward immediate outcomes. Assigning projects in which the faculty member will see almost immediate results (ie creating case studies, having them help in physical examination lab) will promote confidence and spark the desire to become more involved, resulting in the investment of young faculty in the program. Frequently, the more seasoned, well established faculty have set schedules and are less likely to pick up extra work. When the young faculty person arrives, they are full of energy and more apt to volunteer for everything, resulting in the faculty member becoming overworkedand ultimately feeling unappreciated for their work.
