AIMS
To evaluate the approach of the team, specifically focusing on whether a student interprofessional team's type of collaboration (group discussion) has an effect on the accuracy of diagnosing and treating complex cases.
METHODS
This was a pilot prospective quasi-experimental study. Seven interprofessional teams consisting of second-year physician assistant (PA) students, fourth-year medical students, and fourth-year doctor of pharmacy students were recruited along with five control groups (homogenous teams of all PA, medical, or pharmacy students). Three clinical cases of differing levels of difficulty were administered to the groups. Students filled out initial diagnostic and treatment plans. They were then asked to participate in a discussion with their interprofessional group. Following this discussion, they completed a postcollaboration impression of diagnosis and treatment.
