The Pacific Multi-decadal Variability (PMV) and Atlantic Multi-decadal Variability (AMV) both impact South American temperature and precipitation through influencing the atmospheric circulation. At the same time the PMV and AMV also interact with one another, which complicates the relations between the multi-decadal internal variabilities and South American temperature and precipitation. Here we analyze the impacts of the PMV-AMV interactions on South American temperature and precipitation and their underlying mechanisms.
