Arsenic and selenium are both metalloids found in the environment. Arsenic is considered as a significant threat for human health on the basis of its toxicity and occurrence, while selenium, in contrast to arsenic, is a required micronutrient within the appropriate amount. Whether a toxin or micronutrient, cells accumulate both metals. Arsenic and selenium are coupled in biogeochemical cycles and coexist in the rhizosphere soil. Hence, their interactive effects occur during uptake, assimilation, and transformation within the plants. However, the exact mechanism of their interaction is still poorly understood in plants. Mostly, inorganic forms of both metalloids are more toxic as compared to their organic forms, and both forms exist in the soil.
