African American and Hispanic/Latino subjects have been underrepresented in clinical trials 1 despite experiencing higher rates of illness and death compared with their Caucasian counterparts. 2 We sought to identify racial and ethnic disparities in the enrollment of minority patients into cardiovascular clinical trials at a large tertiary urban research health care center.

There were 2 parts to our analysis. The first consisted of analyzing patients who were screened for clinical trials on the basis of race and ethnicity compared with the overall disease prevalence at our institution (MedStar Washington Hospital Center) in 2021.
