At 0715 h on 9 March 2022, the authors spotted a solitary Oriental Pied Hornbill perched on a topmost branch of a eucalyptus tree Eucalyptus globulus [136]. After observing it there for about 20 sec, it flew to the southern side towards a large banyan tree Ficus benghalensis. Its loud call was heard again in the following two days, 10–11 March 2022. We identified the species by some of its distinctive features, such as, a smaller body size and a different casque shape and patterning, compared with the similar Malabar Pied Hornbill A. coronatus. For further confirmation of the species identification, call playback was used once, and the bird’s response to it matched with the vocalisations of Oriental Pied Hornbill.
