In 2000, a group of high-ranking political, religious and civil society leaders, educators, historians and survivors assembled in Stockholm and drafted the Stockholm Declaration about Holocaust education and remembrance (Assmann 2010). The declaration, signed by the representatives of 46 governments, included a pledge to “promote education, remembrance and research about the Holocaust, both in those of our countries that have already done much and those that choose to join this effort”, as well as commitment to “promote education about the Holocaust in our schools and universities, in our communities and encourage it in other institutions”(Allwork 2015, p. 6).
