简介
Saxitoxins (STXs) and tetrodotoxins (TTXs) are small molecule toxins commonly linked to health hazards from eating contaminated seafood. These toxins cannot be eliminated from contaminated products, so early and sensitive detection of both principal and analog toxins in affected products is critical to protect public safety. This chapter provides an overview of some of the common assays and analytical techniques available for detection of STX, TTX, and their related analogs, highlighting the major advantages and limitations of each. The cost of the analysis, the complexity of the contaminated sample, and the speed and sensitivity required for the result will determine which technique is most applicable for a given situation.
