Globally, the burden of orthopedic injury and disease outweighs that of human immunodeficiency virus, tuberculosis, and malaria, 1, 2 yet remains undersupported by many global health funders and Ministries of Health. 3 Developing the evidence base to guide medical and surgical practice in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC) to address this unmet need demands the advancement of sustainable global orthopedic research. Currently, only 13% of the world’s scientists are located in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, 4 necessitating partnerships between LMIC and high-income country (HIC) institutions for the improvement of global health. 5 Well-resourced HIC can provide the research skills, experience, and funding necessary to initiate and support research in LMIC.
