Dear editor The article entitled “Evaluation of the Relationship Between Radial Artery Intima Media Thickness and Complications at the Intervention Site After Radial Angiography” by Naldemir et al. 1 reported that radial artery intima media thickness (rIMT) may be a predisposing factor for the development of thrombosis in patients undergoing angiography using the transradial (TRA) approach. Some comments may be useful.
Transradial coronary catheterization is occasionally associated with various complications, among which radial artery occlusion (RAO) appears to be the most common. 2 Risk factors for RAO include patient characteristics, size and material of the radial sheath, puncture technique, anticoagulation, and hemostasis protocols. 3 In the Naldemir et al. study, 1 the identification of a relationship between preprocedural rIMT thickness and radial artery occlusion is valuable.
