Oxidative stress is associated with the generation of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RNOS) whichnon-enzymatically modify active functional groups in proteins mostly turning them into protein carbonyls ornitrosyls. These changes render the protein molecules non-functional and drive them to degradation or formationof cross linking aggregates. Limited methods are available for detections of protein modifications. Enzyme linkedimmunoassays as quantitative method and Immunoblotting based qualitative methods are most common. Visualexamination of Immunoblots containing a characteristic pattern is difficult for a fair comparison if the differencesare trifling or the modifications are of varying degree across the complete range.
