Purpose
Total arterial revascularisation (TAR) is a CABG strategy avoiding saphenous veins, where large scale non-randomised data reported improvement in clinical outcomes. Yet TAR use in the elderly remains disproportionately low due to concerns of limited life expectancy reducing benefits from this procedure. We aim to evaluate the long-term survival of TAR versus non-TAR for elderly and younger cohorts, separately.
Method
This national retrospective study used ANZSCTS Registry with established linkage to the National Death Index to identify all adult CABG patients receiving at least two conduits. Exclusion criteria included reoperations and concomitant cardiac procedures. The primary outcome was all-cause long-term mortality.
