Arctium tomentosum Mill.(Asteraceae) is an herbaceous, widely distributed plant native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia [1]. Phytochemical examination of the fruits have shown the presence of fatty oil. Inulin, polyynes, and arctiin were identified in its roots. The presence of arctiin was also found in the seeds of other species of the genus Arctium, such as A. lappa, A. minus, A. leiospermum, and A. tomentosum. The bitter sesquiterpene lactone arctiopicrin was isolated from the leaves [1–3]. The presence of two flavonoid compounds, rutin and hyperoside, was also found in the plant [4]. In traditional medicine, A. tomentosum roots are applied in the form of a decoction and infusion and act as a diuretic and dermatologic remedy [3]. Contemporary investigations performed in animals have shown the analgesic and wound healing properties of aqueous-ethanolic dry extracts of woolly burdock leaves [5]. The chloroform …
