Cohort studies are a type of epidemiological study in which subjects are selected based on a common condition or exposure, and then are watched for a subsequent outcome. By conditioning on exposure, cohort studies can measure the incidence of disease and describe natural history. Relative risks can be calculated from cohort studies, as well as a number of other statistical measures of association.
