In addition, women are less likely to identify symptoms as cardiac-related, and providers are less likely to diagnose and treat their symptoms appropriately. 5 Many of the symptoms of heart attack often experienced by women (eg, fatigue, cold sweats, back pain) are also associated with stress, and given their high levels of stress and insufficient knowledge about CVD, black women may attribute heart attack symptoms to stress and fail to seek timely treatment.
