Background
Catheter ablation (CA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction< 40%(HFrEF) is associated with improved outcomes. The patient characteristics, AF effect on quality-of-life questionnaire (AFEQT), and ablation strategies performed remains uncertain in those with and without HFrEF.
Objective
The study aims to investigate the characteristics, AFEQT score, and ablation strategies performed in patients with and without HFrEF undergoing CA for AF.
Methods
A retrospective, observational analysis utilizing data from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry in 80,710 patients with and without HFrEF undergoing CA for AF between 2018-2022.
Results
70,878 patients had CA with LVEF>/= 40% versus 9,832 with HFrEF and the trend remains consistent from 2018-2022 (Figure 1). Persistent AF was more common than paroxysmal AF in HFrEF patients (62.8 vs 32.8%). CHADS …
