This research presented the modeling and simulation approach, as a failure prevention and design optimization tool for determining the dynamic optimal performance of a rotor bearing system, in respect to stability at specified speed range, through selection of appropriate bearing damping coefficient, at the conceptual design stage. The mathematical model of the system was developed, followed by the design of the Simulink model from the mathematical model equations. The model was then linearized before the simulation to obtain the step response plots. Varying values of damping coefficient for the system model were simulated and result showed the underdamped, critically damped, and overdamped working conditions of the system.
