A 9-year-old girl developed gingival hyperplasia while receiving amlodipine for the treatment of hypertension. The girl, who had a history of hypercholesterolaemia, anaemia, eosinophilic colitis and membranous nephropathy, began receiving oral amlodipine 7.5 mg/day after developing an allergic reaction to enalapril. The dosage of amlodipine was gradually increased to 12.5 mg/day, but the final planned increase to 15 mg/day was not carried out. Her other medications included labetalol, epoetin-α, azathioprine, calcitriol, atorvastatin and budesonide. Approximately 2 years after starting amlodipine, she presented with failure to thrive and inability to gain weight. Physical examination revealed gingival hyperplasia.
