Objectives: Our survey found that 7% of Texas abortion clients attempted to induce abortion before coming to the clinic, which is higher than national estimates. We aimed to estimate the proportion of Texas women in the general population who have attempted to self-induce abortion and explore knowledge and attitudes related to self-induction.

Methods: From December 2014 to January 2015, we surveyed a representative sample of women aged 18–49 living in Texas using the GfK KnowledgePanel (n= 779, response rate, 56%). To explore respondents' experience with stigmatized behaviors, we first asked whether their best friend had had an abortion or attempted self-induction and later asked about personal experience. Weighted proportions were calculated.
