Aq. flower extracts of Argemone mexicana, Azadirachta indica, Euphorbia milii, Jasminum sambac, Lantana indica, Nerium indicum and Vinca rosea [Catharanthus roseus] induced resistance to PVX in the hypersensitive host Chenopodium amaranticolor. Resistance varied from 79.2 to 99.2% and remained active for up to 96 h after leaf sprays. In the non-hypersensitive host, tomato, the extracts induced varying degrees of resistance, the highest being 87.2% with A. indica. The induced resistance was sensitive to actinomycin D; resistance induced by the extracts in basal inoculated and upper uninoculated leaves of both hosts was reversed by actinomycin D when applied simultaneously with the extract.
