简介
METHODS:
A 1-year (2015) review of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) NSQIP was performed. All patients older than age 65 who underwent EGS were included. Complications were defined based on ACS NSQIP classifications. Patients were divided into 5 groups based on BMI. Outcome measure was mortality, morbidity, and FTR defined as mortality after a complication. Regression analysis was performed for outcomes controlling for demographics, procedure type, comorbidities, and BMI class.
RESULTS:
A total of 22,881 elderly patients who underwent EGS were analyzed. Mean age was 75±7.6 years, 45% were males, and 78% were white. Overall, 37% of patients had complications, the mortality rate was 6%, and the FTR rate was 14.5%. The most frequent procedure was colectomy (35.2%) followed by cholecystectomy (21.7%), and 40.4% of procedures were performed laparoscopic.
