As a medical student during my clerkships, I experienced a pattern of gender-based discouragement from preceptorsafterexpressingmyinterestincardiology. Despite never sharing information about my personal life or family planning intentions, several preceptors immediately met my career goals with dissuading commentary about the difficulties of pregnancy and raising my future children.
