Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common viral infection that affects the respiratory tract and can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in young infants, older adults, and immunosuppressed populations. It is increasingly recognized as a significant contributor to seasonal acute respiratory illness, 1 and this has led to the development and licensure of novel RSV vaccines. This report provides an overview of the morbidity of RSV in older adults and immunosuppressed populations, recent advances in RSV vaccine research, and licensing of 2 vaccines for older adults; it also emphasizes the importance of vaccination for at-risk patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
