Rationale
Neutrophilic Extracellular Traps (NET) are associated with Pseudomonas infection and frequent exacerbations in bronchiectasis. There have been no studies to investigate the role of NETs in non-tuberculous mycobacterium-associated bronchiectasis and cavitary disease. Here, we profile the levels of NET and cell count differentials in the lower airways of bronchiectasis patients, both NTM-/NTM+.
Methods
Lower airway samples were obtained from 200 participants undergoing clinically indicated bronchoscopies .NET levels were quantified using ELISA in 184 bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) from the most diseased lobe (named primary lobe). Cell count differential was performed on BAL cells.
