Rationale
Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves symptoms, quality of life, and functional capacity in patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD); however, the effect of PR on long-term outcomes and survival is unknown. The primary objective of this retrospective, international, multi-centre cohort study was to determine whether improvement in 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) during PR is associated with better survival in patients with fibrotic ILD.
Methods
Ten collaborating centers collected data from patients with fibrotic ILDs completing outpatient or inpatient PR. Patients with connective tissue disease-associated ILD were excluded. The association of Δ6MWD with 1-and 2-year survival was analyzed using logistic regression models with mixed effects accounting for clustering by center.
