The unexpected antibodies were detected in 42 patients (1.22%); 30 cases were detected at immediate saline phase, 8 cases at 37C albumin phase, and 4 cases at antihuman globulin phase. The antibodies were Lewis antibodies, unidentified cold antibodies, identified cold anti-bodies (anti-M, anti-P, anti-Lu"), Rh antibodies and unidentified warm antibodies, and their distributions were 26.1%, 21.4%, 19.0%, 14.4%, and 11.9%, respectively. When we select the crossmatch technique at 37C albumin phase, only 4 cases (0.11% among 3,450 patients) were missed. Therefore, we suggest the crossmatching of 37C albumin techniques as the routine crossmatcing method in our country, though the antiglobulin phase technique is selectively recommended for multiple transfusion patients, newborns with hyperbilirubinemia and obstetric patients without performing the antibody screening during antenatal care.(Kor J …
