简介
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Manuel Pressure Release (MPR) and Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in people with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems and together with Cervical Myofascial Problems. Methods: 24 student with TMJ problems were randomized in to LLLT group (n=12) and the MPR group (n=12). TMJ activity, pain severity, TMJ and cervical range of motion, dysfunction and palpation sensitivity on tmj and neck, psychological status, severity of sensitivity on mastication and neck muscles and neck pain were assessed. Both groups had a 10 session treatment consisting of correct posture training, cervical and TMJ stretching and strengthening exercises. In MPR group MPR was additionally applied, while LLLT grup was applied LLLT to the tender points in neck and mastication muscules. Descriptive analyses, Wilcoxan and Mann Whitney U tests were used for data analysis. Results: Significant decrease was found in both of TMJ, neck pain; dysfunction’s severity, palpation index and sensitivity on the neck and mastication muscles; TMJ and cervical range of motion after treatment in both groups (p<0,05). When groups compared there was not significant difference between the LLLT group and the MPR group (p>0,05). Conclusions: It was found that both treatment in addition to exercise program have benefit affect on people with TMJ and together with cervical myofascial problems. It is predicted that the number of cases is higher and that long-term effects studies are needed to obtain clearer data.
