Plant kingdom is an everlasting reservoir of wonderful molecules with varying biological activities. All traditional system of medicine shows that plants have provided mankind with a very large variety of patent drugs to alleviate suffering from diseases. A study on the antioxidant potential of the leaves of three medicinal plants (Pergularia daemia, Rhinacanthus nasutus and Ruellia strepens) collected from Tamil Nadu, India, was conducted. Among the leaves tested, the richest source of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant was found to be Rhinacanthus nasutus. The other two leaves included in the study contained moderate antioxidant potential that are known to effectively scavenge oxidant radicals which are implicated to be causative in some fatal diseases including cancer.
