The role of long-term effects of allopurinol on cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality in diabetes I read with interest the recently published study in I Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism i by Weisman et al,[1] who assessed the association between allopurinol and cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality in patients with diabetes, and reported a beneficial effect of allopurinol on most of the study outcomes, although residual bias is suggested by the authors as the cause of this association.
